- Sourcing and Raw Material Quality: Ensuring our 100% grass fed beef bones are sourced from reputable suppliers, and can be traced back to their origin, is crucial for food quality and customer confidence. Our bones are sourced from export-quality meat processors and are visually inspected on arrival at our plant. Electronic animal tracking systems (NAIT) and the electronic certificate system means movements of cattle in New Zealand are recorded, so our products can be traced back to origin.
- Hygiene and Sanitation: As a food-grade facility, hygiene is a top priority, and an essential part of Taranaki Bio Extracts’ entire strategy and operations. Employees adhere to strict personal and plant hygiene standards including wearing of factory attire and sanitation protocols. Our system uses advanced technology and stringent hygiene processes to ensure every product meets the highest standards of food safety – process and hygiene controls mean that production aligns with product formulation requirements. Our Risk Management Programme is HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) based which is the USDA CFR117 part C requirement.
- Cooking Process Control: We have procedures to ensure control of critical parameters like temperature, time and pressure throughout the cooking process. Pressure cooking our quality beef bones and ingredients in batches brings out their best, with the benefits of the latest technology to monitor and maximise for premium results. Our products are high in protein and rich in collagen. Cooking temperature and time impact the amount of protein and collagen extracted from the raw materials, and how much the protein is broken down into small amino acids.
- Testing and Monitoring: All of our ingredients are 100% safe and natural. Independent accredited laboratory checks for both composition and microbiology support our food safety and our food quality. These are carried out on every batch –so we know they’re meeting the correct macro profiles and conforming to product specifications. All details are provided on a certificate of analysis (COA) for every batch we craft. Our positive release policy means we don’t release anything from our kitchen until all laboratory tests are confirmed – until we are satisfied the ingredient quality is of the highest standard, and on specification.
- Product Consistency: Quality control is important for maintaining product consistency – ensuring that customers receive the same quality product every time they purchase it. This helps build brand loyalty and trust. A recipe or product formulation, along with manufacturing procedures, ensures that our products are manufactured consistently and to a high standard of quality.
“As a product quality specialist I ensure that our bone broth meets the highest standards before it gets to our customers. This attention to quality control not only helps maintain TBE’s reputation for premium products but also contributes to customer trust and loyalty which is essential for growth in the market,” says Jess Gwiazdzinski, Product Quality Specialist, Taranaki Bio Extracts.
- Packaging and Storage: Our broths and extracts are exported in both liquid and frozen form. Freezing significantly extends shelf life while preserving quality, which means specialised cold storage and transportation are a key part of our process. Frozen broth and extract is bagged and packed in Spacekraft™ boxes for refrigerated shipping to destinations. Whereas our shelf stable liquid product is packed in ‘bag-in-box’ or ‘bladder-in-box’ packaging. This provides us with a flexible option that is more environmentally friendly compared with plastic jerry cans or plastic pails.
Our labelling meets international regulatory requirements, providing important information including ingredients, nutritional information, handling and storage instructions.
