FAQs on Sustainability . . .
-
1. Where do you source your raw materials from?
The main raw materials we use are quality, 100% grass-fed New Zealand-origin beef bones sourced from export quality meat processors. We source raw materials from ethical and sustainable suppliers – every delivery of bones comes with a certificate approved by the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries.
-
2. Does your product support humane animal welfare standards?
Yes, our suppliers follow New Zealand’s strict animal welfare standards, which are among the most robust globally. Animal welfare is a high priority in New Zealand.
Our animals live free-range and are covered by some of the world’s best animal welfare standards aligning with ethical and sustainable farming practices. Veterinarians work on the front line at meat processors to ensure the welfare of animals.
Our high biosecurity standards help our animals stay healthy and means we can offer the best of beef-based nutrition – world class, great-tasting and nutritious ingredients.
-
3. Are your products traceable?
We have a 100% traceable system across our supply chain. It’s audited under our Risk Management Programme (RMP). Electronic animal tracking systems (NAIT) and the electronic certificate system (ECert) means movements of cattle in New Zealand are recorded, so our products can be traced back to origin. This gives you a guarantee of the product quality you receive when you partner with us.

4. How are your products sustainable?
A sustainable approach is at the very heart of what we do – upcycling and transforming the best of New Zealand’s beef bones to craft our premium ingredients. Using whole bones to extract marrow and collagen, we are transforming what was traditionally considered a waste stream, into nutritious food ingredients.
Manufacturing concentrated extracts (less water) means we minimise our use of packaging and carbon footprint when it comes to international distribution. The by-products of our cooking process are provided to a local company for the manufacture of chicken feed.

5. How does your packaging support sustainability?
- Bag-in-Box – Custom-sized packaging to reduce waste
We use firm-fit 20 litre ‘Bag-in-Box’ (inner bag; 90 micrometre LLDPE blend/ outer bag; 80 micrometre HB Nylon EVOH Blend) packaging that is more environmentally friendly when compared to the rigid packaging options of plastic jerry cans or plastic pails. The LLDPE or Linear low-density polyethylene used for the inner bag comes under Recycling Code 4, and the outer box is 100% biodegradable and recyclable cardboard, so is naturally eco-friendly.
- Plastic Bag Liners – Recycling Code 2
To provide added protection to our bag-in-box components, we use plastic bag liners or carton liners (18 micron, 410x 340x 550mm) made from HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), which is 100% recyclable under Plastics Recycling Code 2.
- Polyfoam – Recycling Code 4
We use strips of polyfoam (900mm x 1mm x 100m) to place between layers of frozen bags of product to eliminate bags rubbing together and leaking. These are made from Low density polyethylene (LDPE) carrying the Plastics Recycling Code 4 which enables these products to be recycled at any plastics recycling facility internationally.
